Ateneo owns game 1 of UAAP Season 74 Finals

UAAP Season 74 Men’s Basketball Finals Game 1 now goes to Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) as they conquer the Far Eastern University with the score of 82 -64 at the Araneta Coliseum last September 24, 2011.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles overcame the FEU Tamaraws strong first half as Nico Salva showcased his perfect offensive moves while reserved JP Erram administered the defensive effort to be able to help Ateneo in taking away the first of the final game series.

With this victory, the Blue Eagles hope to win their seventh UAAP championship title if they could finish off the Tamaraws in their next basketball match.

According to FEU head coach Bert Flores, Ateneo beat them with a perfect game. But according to Ateneo coach Norman Black, the game wasn’t a blow out for the Blue Eagles. The final score, as he added, didn’t indicate the game’s competitiveness. “We just finished this one and we’ll enjoy this for a moment. But obviously, we need to win the second game or otherwise we will give them momentum and they’ll have the confidence heading into game 3.”

The result of the opening game was almost a repeat of last season’s championship series, when Ateneo unload a late first quarter blitz en route to a lopsided 72 -49 victory. The Blue Eagles defeated the Tamaraws in the second game to complete the sweep.

Second game for the best of three matches in UAAP Season 74 Men’s Basketball will take place on October 1, 2011.
